A Bad Day for the Country
The Washington Post recently adopted a new motto: “Democracy dies in darkness.” Turns out that democracy can also die in brightly lit rooms, specifically on the floor of the US Senate. That’s where Republicans decided that Trump may have committed any number of crimes when he tried to bribe Ukraine to dig up dirt on his electoral rival, Joe Biden, but that it didn’t matter. That they were not only going to vote to acquit him, they would block any evidence that might come up. In fact, they claimed that if Trump thought it was in the best interest of the United States to ignore the laws of the land, he could do so without consequences. In other words, he’s now emperor. (If you haven’t been following the trial and think this is hyperbole, here are Trump lawyer Alan Dershowitz’s exact words.)
Well, it was a great experiment while it lasted.
I had another long post about Trump, but I didn't want to start the New Year with something so depressing. But, well, here we are.
We have (maybe) one chance, in November, to bring back democracy. If you don't vote, I am going to hold you personally responsible.
