One thing I keep thinking about Trump is how exhausting he is.  There’s keeping up with the all news, the scandals, the tweets, the latest outrageous or stupid thing he says that day — and then there’s the resistance to all of this: signing petitions, calling congresspeople, donating, going to demonstrations, whatever needs doing. *  It’s possible to spend nearly every waking minute just looking at news sites and watching television; I know, because I did this while I was sick.  It’s tiring, not to mention tiresome.

It makes me realize how little attention I paid to the news when Barack Obama was president, how confident I was that most of the time things were running smoothly.  (Though sure, I disagreed with him sometimes, especially on the deportations and drone strikes.)  The irony is that it’s only now, as Trump repeals Obama’s policies one by one, that I see how much good he did.  And it’s not just me — a sizable amount of people still don’t know that Obama cut taxes, or that the stock market went up during his presidency, and unemployment went down.

Maybe the worst mistake Obama made was in not publicizing everything he did, the way Trump is doing now.  Maybe, though it’s hard to believe in this day and age, he thought people would come to realize for themselves how much he was helping the country, and so he didn’t feel he had to consistently point it out to them.  I hope the next Democratic president (assuming Trump doesn’t make himself President for Life) learns this lesson, or at least hires a good PR firm.

* Though I know I don't do nearly enough of this.
