Another Political Rant

So now we’ve seen Trump’s vaunted negotiation style.  It seems to consist of belittling and browbeating his employees until they do what he wants and then, if they’re unsuccessful, firing them.  As anyone who’s ever worked in a corporate setting knows, this is about the worst possible way to run a business.  Those who are uninterested in working will try to get ahead by spreading gossip and backstabbing, and by fawning over the boss, and the ones who actually want to get things done will keep their heads down and stay out of everyone else’s way.  Unfortunately they’ll be surrounded by an atmosphere of paranoia and constant crises, so their stress levels will be off the charts, and they will talk to as few people as possible, so whole chains of communication will be cut.  Finally they’ll quit, and take their institutional knowledge and experience with them.  It’s no wonder that Trump has had four or five or whatever bankruptcies.

Now we’re seeing the utterly strange spectacle of Trump trying to fire members of Congress and the media, along with the special prosecutor, something he still, after seven months, hasn’t realized he can’t do.  His utter inability to learn, and his general stupidity at negotiation (the thing that was supposed to be his strong suit) may be what finally saves us all.  It would be funny watching him flail around and not get anything done, except that this is our country, this is real life.  And in fact he is getting things done, like deporting people who have been here for years, and not letting transgender people serve in the military.  So, yeah, not funny, really.
